Birds
Finches and Catbirds are Birds exclusively found in the Cherry Forest, they have a similar behavior to the other small birds but hold some particularities.
The bird species to spawn in a location is usually defined by the Turf type surrounding them, however, only Finches, Catbirds and Puffins can spawn in the Cherry Forest all year except during winter, making the biome bird-free during this season. Placing Petal Turfs outside of the Cherry Forest won't bring Finches or Catbirds as they are endemic to the area resulting in Crows to spawn instead.
Hunting
Both Finches and Catbirds can be captured with a Bird Trap and housed in Bird Cages like any other small birds. There is however a major difference in term of loots similar to Canaries who have a reduced feather loot chance. Birds of the Cherry Forest only have 5% chance to drop a Royal / Parakeet Feather, making hunting them less efficient to obtain their feathers. But luckily both birds have a preferred alternative method to leave feathers behind them much more often.
Chaffinch
Chaffinches can be found in the Rose Thickets and the Riversides biome (Red Turfs), they can also occasionally appear out of fully grown Cherry Trees (30% on first chop then 0%) in a flock of 1 to 5 individuals only if:
- Must be in the Cherry Forest
- Must be sunny
- Not during night
- Not in Winter
When bothered from their tree, they will escape and sometime leave a Royal Feather behind (10%), the feather will float in the wind direction and eventually land to be picked-up unless it drowns, this can be prevented by catching it when it comes in range with a Bug Net or taking in consideration the wind direction from the flying petals, none-less, it is possible the wind changes mid-way.
Royal Feathers have 3% chance to appear as Bloomy in the previous scenario, managing to capture it with a Bug Net while mid-air will grant players the Royal Mantle Bloomprint.
Considering the rarity of the event, it is recommanded to always bring a Bug Net and few speed equipments during foraging sessions until obtention of the Bloomprint.
Catbird
Catbird will spawn in any other location on the Cherry Forest and will land in flocks during spring.
They have the ability to mimic other bird songs (Redbirds, Crows, Snowbirds, Canaries, Puffins, Finches...) and do their own "meow" sound occasionally, they will also do so in Bird Cages which make for a fun companion.
Parakeet Feathers can be obtained easily by luring Catcoons into pouncing on a Catbird, the bird will manage to escape and leave a feather behind. It is recommanded to stay relatively close from the action to pick-up the feather before the Catcoon claims it, otherwise it can always be retrieved later on inside their dens.
Tips
- Both Fiches and Catbirds can appear as bloomy when landing. Bloomy birds can be captured and will remain as such even caged.
- When a Bloomy bird is attacked by a Catcoon, they will drop the Bloomprint of their respective feather's dart : The Royal Dart, or Mimic Dart.
- In Bird Cages, Bloomy birds will have a small chance to drop a Bloomy Egg. When cooked over a fire, or left to spoil, or hatched in the Nest Hat, the egg will reveal the Bloomprint for the Birdhouse.
